For
The Power of
Companions on the Path
In December of 2024, I found myself in Charleston at an intimate Mastermind in support
of Stu and Amy McLaren's Village Impact Charity.
The room was filled with thought leaders like Jefferson Fisher (who has 6m followers on Instagram), Michael Bungay Stanier (who has sold over a million copies of his self-published book The Coaching Habit) and Amy Porterfield (who has sold over 100 million dollars in online courses).

Somehow, I was able to sneak in. Don't ask how, because I couldn't tell you. But as they say, if you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room. I was definitely in the right room. I was an anxious mess.
On the last day of the Mastermind, we participated in a live webcast to raise funds for building schools in Kenya. One by one, we spoke into the camera, each answering a single questionβ¦
What do you think is the biggest opportunity for business owners?
I was struggling with impostor syndrome. I was battling impostor syndrome and felt the pressure to say something profound. I decided to take a deep breath and instead, share something that I believe with every bone of my being.

"No matter what you're striving
to achieve, the biggest opportunityfor many of us is to curate a core group of companions on the path."
βShow me your friends,
Iβll show you your future.β

In 2014, James Clear met Ryan Holiday at MMT Toronto, and Ryan convinced James that he should write a book.
At the time, James was a successful blogger with 48,000 email subscribers. He knew that one of the best ways to set himself up for success was to handpick a core group of companions on the path.
So James rented an Airbnb in Sedona and brought together a collection of peers to share best practices. Some people in the group had just published books, while others, like James, were still working on theirs. But they all shared a common goal: to share their wisdom with the world.
Eight years later...
Tim Urban gave one of the most-watched TED talks of all time, with over 75 million views.
Ryan and Shane Parrish have built massive self-help podcasts.
Several have become New York Times best-selling authors.
β¦ And James?
In 2018, he released one of the biggest Non-Fiction books of all time with Atomic Habits. A book that has sold over 30 million copies to date.
a powerful reminder that no matter what you're aiming for this year, there's immense value in surrounding yourself with the right people.
biggest achievements always carry the fingerprints of others.
The notion of being self-made is bullshit. We're Community Made.
Putting together something like this has been a long time coming...
For over the last decade I've had the privilege of serving a beautiful collection of entrepreneurs through MMT.
It's hard to serve two masters.
MMT's diversity is one of its special features. Our members come from various stages of life, business, and industries. However, this diversity also means it's challenging to cater to everyone's needs and desires. The commonality that everyone shares is a focus on shifting from success to significance. Some are choosing to do this by building great companies, while others are focused on sharing their voices.
In our intake forms over the years, we've asked a forward-focused question:
β¦ "What do you hope to be doing three years from now?"
Without fail, the most common responses are:
Speaking, Youtube, Podcasting, Packaging their wisdom in a book... all in service of catalyzing their hard learned lessons and supporting others on their journey.
Over the years, we've noticed a growing interest in thought leadership within our community. In fact, our highest-rated and most-attended roundtable at MMT Del Mar was on this topic. While we try to host sessions throughout the year to support those on this journey, we need to balance our programming to serve everyone.
For those who are invested in sharing their voice and wisdom as an area of focus, this group is designed to help move the needle.
Selfishly...
Expanding my reach, but more notably, building relationships at scale is a key focus for me over the next decade. Over the last year, I have personally shifted a lot of my focus into thought leadership. I skipped hosting an MMT Gathering in 2024 in order to create space for the creative process. Laying down the groundwork for the next decade for projects that will include multiple audiobooks, traditional books, and a podcast.
Plus, there's little that brings me more joy than seeing smart people get the spotlight they deserve.
Through MMT, I've been lucky enough to have a front row seat to the careers of friends including:

Make it stand out.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
